A NEW unisex barbershop has opened its doors in East Cowes.

Hope Price, 33, has launched new venture, Smoke N Mirrors, on Clarence Road, in the former Fin and Fur pet shop.

The business is open from 9.30am to 5pm Tuesday to Friday, and from 9.30am to 4pm on Saturdays.

After qualifying as a hairdresser at the Isle of Wight College in 2012, Hope went in a different direction, working in the care industry for around ten years.

Raising two children, it suited her lifestyle, but she was keen to get into barbering and create her own space.

She saw an opportunity to start her own business and offer a service to the community, accessible to all.

Hope says she prides herself on being patient, making people feel comfortable, and having an attention to detail.

Her son has ADHD and autism and she understands some of the struggles people with those disorders can face, so she was keen to foster a quiet environment and can work to suit the needs of the individual.

The business opened its doors on June 24, and it was a busy first week for Hope, who welcomed more than 80 clients.

She said: “I’d been thinking about starting my own business for a while.

“I realised how much I missed cutting hair and it fits well around my children.

“It’s just me at the moment but I’m looking at potentially adding to the team in the future.

“I decided on barbering as I really love the cutting side of things, colouring isn’t really my passion area, and I can maximise then number of people I can see on a day.”
