Bruno Tonioli has become the latest judge on Britain’s Got Talent to push his golden buzzer – and he said the act’s performance made him ‘forget’ about the original song. During Saturday’s instalment of the popular ITV show, viewers met nervous entertainer and special needs teacher Taryn Charles from Surrey.

Taryn, a singer, told judges Bruno, Simon Cowell, Alesha Dixon and Amanda Holden prior to her audition: "I love to make people smile, and I think my voice is all right.” She added that if she were to win BGT it would “change everything”. Little did the judges expect her to be quite as good as she ultimately ended up being. Try WalesOnline Premium for FREE by clicking here for no ads, fun puzzles and brilliant new features

Following a blazing performance of ‘(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman’ by Aretha Franklin, everyone leapt to their feet. Then, the audience started chanting ‘golden buzzer’ to the judges – which ultimately made Bruno decide to push it. Taryn has now automatically earned herself a place in the BGT semi-finals.

“You've got one of those amazing tones and raspiness that, you know the old saying ‘you could sing the phone book’, I feel like you've got that classic voice,” Alesha told Taryn. Amanda then echoed: “Honestly, from the minute you stepped foot, just chatting to you, you were so down to earth, so sweet, so humble, and then you knocked it out of the park.”

As to why Bruno pressed the buzzer, he said: “I'm not bragging here, but I've had the honour of meeting Carole King (who also famously sang the song). She stayed in my house, and when you started this song, I thought, ‘How is she going to do this?’ You made me forget about her version. The colour of your voice is unique, and you're a very, very, very special person.”

Then it came to Simon’s feedback and he said: “You sold us a complete dummy, didn't you? I could see you were nervous and I was thinking, ‘This probably isn't going to be very good’. And then you started singing, and this is how people should sing. This is proper singing.”

He then asked Taryn: “Has someone ever told you that you couldn't do this?” and she said that someone had. Simon continued: “I could see you were nervous, and I was thinking, ‘Yeah. I bet you somebody at some point has said to you that you haven't got a great voice or nothing's going to ever happen.’ Boy did you prove that person wrong!”

Taryn now joins CyberAgent Legit (Simon’s golden buzzer), Sydnie Christmas (Amanda’s), Ssaulabi Taekwondo Troupe (Ant & Dec’s), and Ravi's Dream Team (Alesha’s), in the BGT semi-finals.
