The mother of missing teenager Jay Slater met with Tenerife police on Monday, a day after the search for him was called off.

Debbie and Warren, the devastated parents of the apprentice bricklayer, spoke to officers in an attempt to understand more about their ongoing investigation. A source close to the family stated: "The family want to be sure the police aren't giving up on Jay. "They are in constant contact with them about the case.

"Mark Williams-Thomas, a former British police detective assisting the family, had previously disclosed: "They have been talking to the police most days and are speaking to them again today. "This meeting, thought to have occurred over the phone, came as detectives announced they found no evidence of criminal activity related to Jay's disappearance and are treating it as a missing persons case. As per standard procedure in Spain, the police have reported to a court, which has initiated a routine judicial investigation. Yesterday, details of the case were released, including that Jay was officially reported missing to the police "between 6pm and 8pm" on June 17. A judicial source, who wished to remain anonymous, commented: "There is no evidence of criminality at this stage in this case.

"That's not to say things won't change because the case remains open and investigations are ongoing. But right now that's the situation."

The case is currently under the supervision of investigating judge Maria Goya, reports the Mirror.

An insider revealed: "The Civil Guard don't have to tell the judge about everything officers are doing, but will be keeping her updated on case progress and of course update her on any significant developments."

Jay's family, including his mum Debbie, a school finance officer, and dad Warren, 58, have pledged to remain in Spain until Jay is located.

Debbie had previously expressed her belief that he may have been abducted, but no credible ransom demands have been made. TikTok star and amateur mountaineer Paul Arnott, 29, who is assisting the family, continued his search in the area near Masca, where Jay was last spotted.

Mr Arnott, hailing from Bedfordshire, was yesterday concentrating on two new leads, including a set of GPS co-ordinates and the finding of a broken pair of sunglasses similar to a pair Jay had been seen wearing before.

However, it has not been confirmed whether the found eyewear has any link to the missing teenager. Jay, from Oswaldtwistle, Lancs, had been enjoying a night out at Papagayo nightclub in Playa Las Americas before his disappearance.

Two older British men drove him 20 miles to their holiday rental in Masca, an 11-hour walk from his accommodation, before he was seen departing on foot the following morning. The police have stated that these two individuals have "no relevance" to his disappearance.

Taking to his TikTok channel, Mr Arnott revealed he had managed to extend his stay in Tenerife as he continues his desperate search for his friend Jay. He declared: "I'm gonna stay here until we find Jay. I'm gonna do my best, I really am."

Previously, frustrated Mr Arnott criticised the authorities' last day of efforts in locating Jay which consisted of a mere six volunteers and around 30 professional rescuers. He labelled it as "ridiculous" and "a massive PR thing".

The determined man even proposed enlisting the help of British searchers, suggesting: "I wish we could start a GoFundMe or something and just send a load of search and rescue guys from Scotland out."

Looking ahead to next week, he said: "Maybe Monday I can contact Scottish Mountain Rescue and see if we can have a chat about things, but at the moment this is ridiculous. This is mad."
