Jimmy Thelin harnessing Aberdeen FC energy from Elfsborg as emotional farewell makes it all feel real

Jimmy Thelin is preparing to bring his big Elfsborg energy to Aberdeen after an emotional farewell to fans.

The Swede will take the reins at Pittodrie on June 3 after he has completed his final two games in charge of the Allsvenskan outfit - against reigning champs Malmo and then IFK Goteborg on June 1. Fans gave Thelin a 15-minute ovation at the Boras Arena last Friday after a 2-0 win over Halmstad, with the boss addressing punters via megaphone.

He admits that his stress levels increased after deciding to see out the season with Elfsborg despite accepting the Dons' offer to permanently replace Barry Robson after the Neil Warnock experiment proved to be a disaster. The 43-year-old Thelin is desperate to leave on a high. He has plenty of good memories already, however, and plans to harness the Elfsborg energy to get Aberdeen firing again after a miserable campaign.

"It was emotional, for sure," he told the Press and Journal. "I have only good memories from Elfsborg and I will use that energy and bring it to Aberdeen with myself and my staff.

“It has been quite stressful now because I want to leave the club with my head held high and not lose games. This was the last time on the home pitch and it was emotional, and also before and after the game.

“I had already felt it in the last match before this (2-1 away loss to GAIS) that it is beginning to come to an end. It is becoming real. You can think about it at home but then when I arrived at the stadium I realised it is the last time. But there are good feelings as I had a happy time here. I have good memories and it is a good feeling, not sad.

“It feels special. It will be even more so when it is completely clear and I can sit at home on the sofa and think about these six-and-a-half years at Elfsborg. But I am also happy to look forward to going to Aberdeen."
