John Krasinski And Emily Blunt Had Terrifying Shark Encounter While On Honeymoon

John Krasinski has revealed that he and wife Emily Blunt had a terrifying brush with a shark while on their honeymoon.

The couple married in 2010 and enjoyed a luxury holiday afterwards. John convinced his new wife that they should go scuba diving – though, unbeknownst to them, they would become the leading roles in a real-life ‘Jaws’ sequel.

‘The Office’ actor stopped by ‘The Ellen DeGeneres Show’ and explained the story to the talk show host in an episode that will be aired on Friday.

He admitted that Emily had never wanted to learn scuba diving due to her fear of the finned fish but they decided to give it a go.

“It was a hundred feet deep, it’s like the bottom of the Earth,” he told Ellen of the experience.

“It’s very scary. The crazy thing was we had ‘snorkled with sharks’ so our dive instructor, I think got really competitive, and was like 'Oh I’ll show you some stuff.’”

The newly married couple ventured down into the deep waters but soon found themselves surrounded by critters, some that were less inviting than others…

John explained: “I know every shark looks like Jaws, but these really look like Jaws and they’re huge… and they swim very close.

“All of a sudden one broke off from the circle and started swimming behind us. I saw it and Emily didn’t.

“He started to charge Emily, so my decision was 'If I spook her and she moves a lot, he might bite her.’”

The shark drifted past Emily and, when she realised, she almost passed out underwater.

“(When she realised how close it was to her) air bubbles came out, she kind of passed out under water. All of her air just went to the top, it was pretty scary,” the actor admitted.

Thankfully the 32-year old actress recovered and the incident improved when they encountered a sea turtle.

“A sea turtle that came up, I’m not kidding, put his arm around her and then started petting her head. He hugged her,” said John as he shared underwater footage from their trip.

“It was like he knew she had had a bad day and was like 'sorry about my buddy Terry, he gets real close on the flybys.’”

Phew. We do love a happy ending!
