KFC is testing a camera which orders meals for you - based on your looks
The takeaway of the future is already here – in a branch of KFC where all you do is stand in front of a camera, and a computer orders for you.
The facial recognition camera recognises people’s sex, age and mood – and orders what the computer thinks is appropriate.
The rather alarming cameras are on test in Beijing – and can also remember what regular customers buy, and re-order it automatically, the Guardian reports.
You simply stand in front of a camera machine – and if you agree with its choices, you can pay by tapping your mobile phone.

Alarmingly, the cameras look at people’s appearance, and ‘guess’ what they might like – so men get massive plates of chicken, while women get porridge.
KFC said, ‘The artificial intelligence-enabled system can recommend menu items based on a customer’s estimated age and mood.’
The technology was produced in partnership with Chinese tech company Baidu, who say that, for instance, a man in his 20s would be offered ‘a set meal of crispy chicken hamburger, roasted chicken wings and coke’.
By contrast, a 50-year-old woman would be reccommended ‘porridge and soybean milk for breakfast’, Baidu says.
