At Least One Person Dead After Hurricane Batters Southern Italy

One person died in Sicily after a mediterranean hurricane battered southern Italy late on Sunday, October 24, emergency services said.

The body of a man was recovered on October 25, southwest of the Sicilian city of Catania. His wife is still missing, emergency services said.

Intense storms meant 400 mm of rain fell in less than 24 hours, as roads were turned into rivers carrying cars and debris, Il Giornale reported.

Video posted by emergency services shows rescue efforts on October 24 in Lentini, where authorities said they rescued four people. A second video shows the aftermath of the flooding in nearby Scordia.
