A month's worth of rain fell across Leicestershire during the five day Storm Babet, making October the wettest since records began, local weather expert Phil Morrish confirmed.

At the time, Phil said: "The week's [Monday 16 October to Sunday 22 October] rainfall totals were truly outstanding! Between Wednesday and Sunday, 60 to 80mm of rain fell across Leicestershire and Rutland. This is more than the usual monthly average total of 59mm.

And this year is shaping up to be no different. Flooding has plagued parts of Leicester and Leicestershire during the first five months of this year. Alerts have been in place throughout most of the year, including last month when the government's flooding service issued alerts for tributaries in Leicester city, the Lower River Soar and the Loughborough urban watercourses

Only in April, two people had to be rescued from a submerged car at one of Leicestershire’s most notorious flooded bridges. Heavy rain saw a number of alerts put in place across the country, with warnings put in place by authorities.
