Meet the new foals born at city park

A pair of foals have been born in a council-owned park on the outskirts of the city.

The foals, who have been named Chester and Patch, were born in Bowthorpe Southern Park last week.

Kelly Addle, a regular visitor to the park, said: "We have welcomed two adorable foals to Bowthorpe Southern Park.

The second foal was named Patch (Image: Kelly Addle) "Please take care around the mother and foal when visiting - the mother is only comfortable with people she knows around her baby."

The horses belong to a local grazier and are allowed at the site under a Norwich City Council grazing licence.

Patch was born last Friday (Image: Kelly Addle) They were due to be evicted in 2016 but in a change of policy, the council instead decided to work with the owner of the horses to benefit the park.

A spokesman for Norwich City Council said: "The horses are an essential part of the management of Bowthorpe Southern Park, helping to manage the grassland habitat for wildlife.

Visitors are advised to be careful around the foals (Image: Kelly Addle) "Norwich City Council has worked closely with the grazier since 2016 to resolve any historical issues.

"I’m happy to say that due to this approach, the site is now richer in biodiversity and is a beautiful and relaxing park to visit."
