THE British Red Cross has put its headquarters in Newport up for sale for £750,000 amid financial strain on the charity — but stresses it will still be a presence, providing services on the Isle of Wight.

Up for sale through Scotchers estate agents, the British Red Cross says its priority will continue to help those in crisis, including those living on the Isle of Wight.

The detached two-floor building — Red Cross House — is in a prime location central to the Island, in Hunnycross Way, linking Hunnyhill and Medina Way.

With its £750,000 price tag comes 4,300 sq ft of floor space, and is a freehold property, boasting extensive parking.

It is used not only for administration, but also, importantly, its first aid training courses. It has long been a base where people in need can borrow mobility aids.

As yet, the charity remains tight-lipped about its plans to relocate its Island operation, but stresses its commitment to those in need of their services.

A British Red Cross spokesperson said: “There will be no change to our services on the Isle of Wight — and we will continue to be there for those in crisis.

"Like many charities, businesses and households, we are facing the financial pressures of increasing costs, so we are reducing the number of properties we run.

“Our priority will continue to be helping all those that need us, including those on the Isle of Wight.”

The British Red Cross has four other outlets on the Isle of Wight — shops in Freshwater, Newport, Ryde and Shanklin.
