London is set for a mini-heatwave next week with warmer days in store. Several forecasters have laid out their predictions for next week saying that temperatures are set to soar by the final weekend of April.

This week has been chilly after a nice sunny teaser a couple of weekends ago but that is all set to change, BBC Weather and Accuweather say. The Met Office are largely in agreement with these two services but its forecast only stretches to next Monday.

Today (Tuesday, April 23) it's a miserably cold day for spring with highs of just 11C and lows of a dreadful 4C. Wednesday is looking pretty similar but thankfully it's the lowest point in the next two weeks.

From Thursday the only way is up for the temperature, and all three weather services seem to agree. Even though there is some rain due there's still something to celebrate with the return of warmer weather.

BBC Weather

The BBC is pretty optimistic about the next week of weather. While they say this weekend will be a bit rainy with highs of 14C and low of 9C on Saturday and highs of 15C and lows of 8C on Sunday, it's a turning point in terms of weather.

On Saturday, they predict it will rain throughout the day with a 70 per cent chance from 11am till 7pm. Sunday is a similar story with rain starting a bit earlier with a small hiatus and then returning to a 70 per cent chance.

Monday, often dreaded by workers and students alike, is the day we should all look forward to as there is not forecast to be any rain all day with amazing highs of 17C in the mid-afternoon and lows of 7C. The evening will be filled with uninterrupted sun from 6pm until 8pm too.

Temperatures still climb from Tuesday to Friday with highs not dropping below 17C, the warmest of these days being Thursday with highs of 17C and lows of 11C. Sadly these days will also be speckled with passing showers but also with clouded sun as well.

By the next weekend, the rain is due to have eased and on Saturday it's due to stick with the highs of 17C and lows of 9C with mostly cloudy weather but with some rays shining through.

Next Sunday is going to be lovely, the BBC say, with perfect sunny weather in the morning from 6am until 1pm with beautiful sun and clouds for the rest of the day. This will be the hottest day of the week with highs of 18C and lows of 9C. The Monday after continues the warming trend with highs of 19C and lows of 11C with gorgeous sunny weather.

Accuweather shares the BBC's optimism. It too says that this week will be more building towards next week, agreeing that Wednesday will be the coldest out of the two weeks with highs of 11C and lows of just 4C.

However, it does not predict this week will be as rainy as the BBC saying that only Friday and Saturday will see a notable chance of rain - Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday have a precipitation chance of below 50 per cent.

By Sunday Accuweather agrees exactly with the BBC that London will see highs of 15C and lows of 8C and be the warmest day this week and the beginning of the beautiful week of warmer weather ahead.

However, Accuweather believes the weather will peak before the BBC - with the hottest days being Thursday and Friday with highs of 19C following the increasingly hotter days leading up to it. They predict that the weekend will fall off the hot trend slightly, coming down to highs of 17C and lows of 9C on Saturday and highs of 18C and lows of 10C on Sunday. Monday is not predicted to carry on the hot trend with chilly highs of 14C, Accuweather said.

Met Office

As stated above, the Met Office's prediction only goes as far as next Monday, April 29. However, these predictions largely agree with the forecasters above. This Sunday and next Monday are due to be the hottest and sunniest in their weeklong prediction which appears to show a trend of increasingly hotter weather as the others do.

Sunday will see a good amount of sun with highs of 15C and lows of 9C and Monday will bring highs of 16C and lows of 8C. Sadly there is still predicted to be rain on both these days.

The long-range forecast of the Met Office from Saturday, April 27 to Monday, May 6 is not so optimistic. It reads: "An uncertain start to the period though likely unsettled as a frontal system pushes into southern areas and possibly across the UK through the weekend. Beyond this low-pressure patterns becoming more dominant than of late with wet weather perhaps more likely to develop in parts of the south and east, with western and especially northern areas hanging on to the best of any drier interludes, though all parts may see some rain at times.

"Onshore winds along eastern coasts will likely make it feel rather cold at times, though for all parts temperatures will likely trend back toward average. Into early May, something of a north-south split looks possible, with relatively drier conditions further to the north and the greatest chance of rain further to the south." They seem to think rain is due to descend upon the south more than anything.
