Love Island: Women's Aid says there are 'warning signs' in Adam's abusive treatment of Rosie

Love Island’s Adam has been accused of emotional abuse by women’s charity Women’s Aid, after his on-screen treatment of Rosie this week.

Women’s Aid has urged viewers to take his behaviour seriously and recognise when someone is emotionally abusing someone or gaslighting (which is where a person claims someone is acting paranoid and making them doubt their own sanity).

After viewers noticed his attitudes change and an attempt to manipulated her. After Rosie, a solicitor from Wales, clocked on to his distancing he turned around and said she was imagining it all – but she wasn’t, and the pair had a blazing row and parted ways.

Women’s Aid issued a statement on the matter, saying that people should pay attention and know when to spot the signs of this type of abuse.

‘On the latest series of Love Island, there are clear warning signs in Adam’s behaviour,’ it began.

‘In a relationship, a partner questioning your memory of events, trivialising your thoughts or feelings, and turning things around to blame you can be part of pattern of gaslighting and emotional abuse.

‘Last night, Rosie called out Adam’s unacceptable behaviour on the show. We ask viewers to join her in recognising unhealthy behaviour in relationships and speaking out against all forms of domestic abuse – emotional as well as physical.

‘It is only when we make a stand together against abuse in relationships that we will see attitudes change and an end to domestic abuse.’

The personal trainer’s treatment of Rosie was heavily criticised by viewers and they were proud of her when she stood up to him and told him how he’d affected her: ‘I don’t think you have any idea how much you’ve hurt me and how much you’ve really upset me,’ she blasted.

‘The worst thing is, I don’t think you actually care. You’re like stone,’ to which a smirking Adam replied with ‘debatable’.

She then decided to do a steamy photoshoot with Megan, as a means of making her feel better, empowering her, and as a way of getting back at Adam: ‘Normally, if a boy p*ssed me off I would get smoking photos and post them all over social media to show him what he’s missing, but I’m just going to do it in front of his face,’ she said.

‘We’re women, if we want to take a photo of our gorgeous bodies, we will do.’

People on Twitter were quick to condemn his behaviour, including former I’m A Celeb winner and Geordie Shore star Vicky Pattison.

‘Adam, if you’d done what you’ve done to Rosie to me I would have set you on fire. You’re a sociopath. And I hope no one uses your boohoo man code when you leave the villa.

‘The end,’ she scathed to her 2.1 million followers.

Other Twitter users were just as brutal in their assessment him.

But Adam isn’t the only one to have been accused of gaslighting – Wes has also come under fire for the way he’s treated Laura.
