Yahoo News Mackenzie Sol's American Idol dream over as County Durham singer axed to shock of fans
Mackenzie Sol has admitted his 'heart is hurting' after the County Durham born singer was eliminated from American Idol, much to the shock of many fans who thought he was destined to go a long way in the show.
Having lived in the States with mam Nicola for the last decade, Mackenzie tried out for the new series of the world's biggest talent show with a rendition of Sam Cooke's Bring It All Home to Me to impress star judges Katy Perry, Lionel Richie and Luke Bryant and earn a place in the Hollywood round, before then advancing through to the next stage, which saw him perform a cover of Nick Jonas' Jealous in front of an audience including Nicola, at the Disney Aulani Resort in Hawaii
After his performance, Mackenzie relied on the public vote to make the top 24, which he did, meaning he got to perform live to the nation for the first time, with all three judges once again full of praise from him, thanks a stunning version of I'll Never Love Again, the moving Lady Gaga song from A Star is Born.

Viewers at home clearly liked it too as they voted Mackenzie into the top 20, meaning he was back to perform again earlier this week, this time singing to keep his place in the competition with False Alarms, after the results of the viewer vote saw the singers split in town.
The 10 with the most votes from the night before were automatically safe, with Mackenzie and nine others, having to compete for four remaining spits, chosen by the judges.
Sadly for Mackenzie, he wasn't meaning picked, meaning the end of the road for him and, taking to Facebook to reflect on how he was feeling and writing: "Thank you everyone for all of your support my heart is still hurting! The song lyrics say it all but this is the beginning not the end I hope you’ll all stay on this journey with me"
The comments thread underneath his post was quickly full of reactions from people not only sad to see him go, but shocked he was eliminated. One viewer told him: "Robbed completely" with another writing: "hope you get brought back thru (sic) a wild card vote !!!"
