A 'vulnerable' man said he has been 'unable to sleep' after CCTV footage showed a thief using his bank card.

Jack Thomas, 36, had been picking up his new disability car from CUPRA Retailer garage in Liverpool last Friday (May 10), when he claims his bank card was stolen and used for multiple transactions, totalling around £100.

The stolen bank card was used in Applegreen Garage, in Liverpool city centre shortly after it was taken. CCTV footage from the garage shows a man appearing to use the card to buy bottles of fizzy pop and cigarettes.

Jack told the ECHO: "I had gone to pick up my new disability car from CUPRA, I had my card in the garage because I had paid for it and then I remember putting it on the chair next to me. I didn't realise I had lost it until I left the garage.

"It was used at Applegreen Garage in Liverpool city centre, the first transaction was around 3.30pm on Friday. I am frustrated, it must have happened minutes after I left the garage. They haven't spent massive amounts, just over £100 all together. I cancelled it as soon as I realised. It has knocked my confidence a little bit."

CCTV images from Applegreen Garage appear to show a man using Jack's card to buy items from the shop. Jack added: "He has stolen money by using a vulnerable disabled persons bank card. He’s used it several times at the same garage within several hours.

Jack said he has been "unable to sleep," after the theft as he is now worried about his own financial situation. He said: "I already have severe anxiety but this has added to it, I've not slept for a couple of nights because I have been worried about whether I will get the money back or not. I was getting a new mobility car and had to pay a lump sum out for that. Times are hard. I don't want it to happen to anyone else."

A spokesperson for Merseyside Police said: "We can confirm we received report on Saturday 11 May of a credit card which had been lost the day before along Pall Mall , Liverpool city centre.

"It was reported that the card has been used six times, totalling £98.99. It has since been cancelled with the bank. Enquiries are been carried out.

"Anyone with information on this incident including CCTV and dashcam footage is asked to contact @MerPolCC on Twitter or ‘Merseyside Police Contact Centre’ on Facebook with reference 262 of 11 May. You can also pass information via Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111."
