Epsom and Ewell will be voting for their next MP on Thursday July 4 as the nation heads to the polls. Long-standing Conservative Chris Grayling announced he would not run in the next election after a cancer diagnosis in 2023.

The list of candidates has now been published with six parties hoping to secure your vote and represent residents in the new parliament.

Hoping to follow Mr Grayling’s steps (or 17,000 majority) for the Conservatives will be Mhairi Fraser. But nothing can be certain if the make-up of Epsom and Ewell Borough Council is any indicator with Resident Associations holding the majority of seats. Labour , Liberal Democrats and the Green Party are also standing candidates, with Reform UK rounding out the group. Looking to beat the traditional colours, Gina Miller’s True and Fair Party is also standing.

The Local Democracy Reporting Service gave each candidate 100 words (they've been cut off if they've gone over) to pitch why you should vote for them. The candidates are below, in alphabetical order by surname.

Mhairi Fraser, Conservative

"I am standing to be the Conservative MP for Epsom and Ewell because it has been my family home for almost 20 years. I have lived and worked in Epsom and Leatherhead, and all of my siblings went to school here; the success of this community means a great deal to me.

My top priorities are protecting the Green Belt, tackling crime with a more visible police presence, improving commuter services, regenerating our high streets and drastically improving mental health services. And, as an anti-corruption lawyer, I promise to do it all while bringing integrity back to our national politics."

Helen Maguire, Liberal Democrats

As a local resident and a mother of three, I’m deeply invested in Epsom & Ewell’s future. My Army career, in the Royal Military Policy has honed my focus and determination, which I now want to use to serve you as your Liberal Democrat MP.

I’m passionate about improving health and social care, boosting our local economy through green initiatives, and holding water companies accountable for pollution. I believe in action, not empty promises, and I’m committed to making Epsom & Ewell a better place for all its residents. Together, we can create a brighter future.

Steve McKenna, Green

  • I am an experienced Town Planner and Chartered Surveyor, graduate of Manchester University,

  • Elected Borough Councillor for Reigate and Banstead BC since 2016 and member of planning committee

  • Resident of East Surrey where I have resisted the loss of the rural character of the area

  • Currently working for a community charity in Oxfordshire supporting rural communities to create Neighbourhood Plans

  • Green Belt, planning, the housing crisis and underinvestment in healthcare - are of great concern to the constituency

  • If elected I would help change legislation to address the overdevelopment of the constituency, the cost of living issue and climate change

Gina Miller, True and Fair

It would be my honour and privilege to become the next MP for Epsom, Ewell, Ashtead and Leatherhead to use the experience, expertise, enthusiasm and skills I have acquired over the past 34 years as a campaigner and 28 years as a successful businesswoman, to make a real and lasting difference.

My vision and plans focus on fixing our social structures and conditions to enhance opportunities for local people to enjoy healthier, happier, more productive lives.

To prioritise individual and community wellbeing, and work in partnership to resolve whatever issues and concerns arise over the next five years.

Mayuran Senthilnathan, Reform UK

The establishment parties essentially offer the same thing: high tax, mass immigration combined with chasing ideological policies means nothing works in this country. Reform UK offers a real choice away from the failed formula of other parties. We need to shake up British politics and that is why I am standing.

I am a family man, an NHS dentist and a businessman. The three areas I will be campaigning on is protection of the green belt, policing and making the NHS work for the community. I honestly feel Britain is broken and we need to save it.

Mark Todd, Labour

I’ve lived in Epsom for 15 years. I’m deeply involved with local clubs and charities such as Epsom Cycling Club, the local tree board, and as Vice Treasurer of the fabulous charity saving The Epsom Wells Community Centre.

I'm a successful businessman. I co-founded one of the UK's largest energy price comparison companies that at its peak organised one million energy switches a year and employed 350 people. I’m a Parliamentary advisor on energy and successfully lobbied to have rip off energy tariffs banned via the energy price cap. I have two Masters degrees in Economics, one from Oxford.

Damon Young, Social Democratic Party

"I am a teacher at Epsom College and live in Ewell Village with my 11-year-old daughter. I'm deeply concerned about the lack of affordable housing and the breakdown in health and social care. These would be top priorities should I be elected.

"I also prioritise resisting the impact of gender ideology and critical race theory, considering both to be flawed and divisive. I am alarmed at the influence these ideas will have on the incoming Labour government and will be at the forefront of challenging them. I am standing for the SDP because of its committed stance on these issues. "
