The New Mercedes-AMG CLE53 Cabriolet Is Sporty Drop-Top That Packs a 443 HP Punch

Mercedes-AMG wants to make sure that thrill seekers have plenty of options going forward.

The German marque’s performance sub-brand has just unveiled the 2025 CLE53 Cabriolet. And, just like its hard-top sibling, the new model packs a punch and offers four-wheel drive.

AMG’s new convertible looks just like the CLE53 coupe—with the exception of its missing roof. Both vehicles are wider than their Mercedes-Benz counterparts and have a more sculpted shape, larger aero elements, and a wide-mouth grille with vertical slats. The vehicle looks even more sophisticated without a roof, but if the weather takes a turn while you’re driving, you can put up the multilayer soft-top (available in black, red, or gray) in just 20 seconds at speeds of up to 37 mph.

The interior has been left relatively untouched, but some modifications have been made to make driving with the top down that much more pleasant. There’s a neck-warming Airscarf system for the front seats and an electronically powered wind deflector that shields the rear passengers. Other unique features include an 11.9-inch central display that tilts to reduce glare and an optional infrared-reflecting coating for the leather interior that reduces temperature absorption, something that should come in useful during the hottest months of the year.

Unlike the AMG CLE coupe, which features two powertrain options, the convertible has just one. That setup, which consists of a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six and a 48-volt electric compressor, is no slouch. Mercedes says it will produce up to 443 hp and 413 ft lbs of torque, with a 10-second overboost feature kicking in an additional 30 ft lbs of torque. That power is routed to all four-wheels via a nine-speed automatic transmission and is enough to launch the car from zero to 60 in just 4.3 seconds. That’s 0.3 seconds slower than the coupe, but the optional AMG Dynamic Plus package features a Race Start launch control function that shaves 0.2 seconds off that time. The add-on also comes with a Drift mode. Top speed, meanwhile, is an electronically limited 155 mph.

Mercedes says the CLE53 Cabriolet will make its way to our shores during the second half of the year. No price has been announced yet, though you can expect it to be well north of the standard CLE450, which starts at $68,100.
