The Met Office has provided a bright outlook for the coming weather but it comes with a warning.

According to the weather monitoring agency, this weekend will see a spread of sunny spells across the country, particularly in the south and east where temperatures are expected to stay in the mid-20s. However, as we get close to the end of the month, conditions will turn sour.

Large parts of the country are expected to see more rainfall with an expected increase in thunderstorms. Temperatures are also expected to drop significantly which will carry on into the start of June.

Ellie Glaisyer, a meteorologist at the Met Office, said: “It will generally be a lot more settled this week. It will start to feel much more pleasant with temperatures on Tuesday likely to reach the very early twenties in the south, and then later on in the week, we could see temperatures of around 22C to 23C, while the north is likely to reach temperatures in the high teens.”

It comes after the Met Office issued yellow weather warnings for parts of England, Wales, and southern Scotland across the bank holiday. On Monday evening, nine flood warnings and 57 alerts remained in place on the Environment Agency website.

It said local flooding from surface water and rivers was "possible but not expected" in part sof south-east England, and London. It added that local flooding from surface water was "possible in other parts of England" from "isolated, heavy thundery showers".

Writing its long-range forecast for May 11 to May 20, the Met Office said: "The coming weekend will probably remain fine for many, with some spells of sunshine for most and it will continue to feel warm, especially in parts of the south and east where temperatures are likely to remain in the mid-20's.

"Some areas of cloud are likely, especially around some coasts and perhaps later in northwest Scotland, with an increasing risk of a few showers here too. Following this spell of pleasant May weather though, it's all change the following week with conditions likely to turn more changeable across the country, with rainfall likely to be above average in most areas.

"Some of the rain is likely to be heavy and a few thunderstorms are also likely. Temperatures will return back closer to normal for May."

It's important to note that long-range forecasts can be subjected to change due to the unpredictable nature of predicting conditions so far in advance.
