Met Police apologise after officers tweet selfie from murder scene

London’s Met Police force has apologised after two officers posted a selfie from a murder scene on Twitter.

The officers from Newham, east London, sparked anger when they shared a selfie from the Stratford Centre, where a man had been stabbed to death two days before.

The picture was shared on a force Twitter page with the caption: “Crime scene at Stratford mall today.”, prompting furious responses from fellow Twitter users questioning how the officers had thought it appropriate.

The tweet has since been deleted and the force issued an apology via Twitter.

It admitted the officers had showed “a lack of judgement and sensitivity” and said they would be “reminded of how to use social media responsibly”.
