Molly-Mae Hague has revealed she spoke to a therapist earlier this year after "really struggling" with her mental health and said she has had to "become immune" to online hate.

The influencer and PrettyLittleThing creative director found herself at the heart of a social media controversy after comments she made on the podcast Diary of a CEO went viral in January.

She was criticised for being "tone-deaf" after referring in the interview to a quote about how "we all have the same 24 hours in a day" and can choose what to do with those hours.

While Hague did not directly mention the backlash in her newest video, the star said she felt like there was "a time a few months ago" when she "really needed" to speak to someone.

She said: "[The therapist] actually really helped me to understand that it's good to control my thoughts, and that's something that I've been working on recently."

While responding to a question from her followers about dealing with hate, Hague said she has since "honestly become a bit immune" to reading negative comments about her in the press and on social media.

She added: "I have to become immune to these things because, if you're not, you won't sleep at night. I feel like I've had to learn to look at things that are written about me and think 'okay'.

"Especially over the last six months, I've had to grow such thick skin and learn that not everyone's gonna like you in this life."

In the aftermath of her podcast comments going viral, Hague's representatives said short snippets of the interview shared online were not "at all the meaning or thought behind that conversation".

They added: "Her opinion on if you want something enough you can work hard to achieve it is how she keeps determined with her own work to achieve more in her own life.

"Molly is not commenting on anyone else’s life or personal situation. She can only speak of her own experience.”

The controversy drew commentary from MPs and other public figures, including presenter Ulrika Jonsson and businesswoman Karren Brady.

Hague has since distanced herself from the reality show, saying that it "pushed me in the right direction" but she was already on the influencer path.

She added: "The things that I've achieved since coming out of that show aren't really down to the show. They're more down to my drive and ambition to do big things."
