Motorcyclist seriously injured and taken to hospital after Military Road crash

A motorcyclist suffered serious injuries following a crash on the Isle of Wight’s Military Road yesterday evening (Monday).

At around 6.25pm, police were called to the scene following reports of a two-vehicle crash.

The collision involved a motorcycle and a car.

The rider of the motorcycle, a man in his 50s, suffered serious injuries and was taken to Southampton General Hospital for treatment, police have confirmed.

The collision happened near Freshwater Bay Golf Club, overlooking Freshwater Bay, and involved a Citroen Nemo and a motorcycle.

Needles Coastguard Rescue Team were en route to training on Military Road at the time of the collision and stopped to provide initial casualty care.

The road was closed in both directions for a time while emergency teams dealt with the incident.
