Disabled Children Murders: Mum Due In Court

A mother arrested over the deaths of her three disabled children in south London has arrived at court charged with their murders.

Tania Clarence was arrested after her four-year-old daughter and three-year-old twin sons were found dead at the family's £1.2m house in New Malden.

The 42-year-old, who was initially taken to hospital with minor injuries, will appear before magistrates in Wimbledon, south London, later.

Post-mortem examinations are being carried out at Great Ormond Street Hospital on the three children, who are understood to have had spinal muscular atrophy.

The life-limiting genetic condition is also known as floppy baby syndrome and leaves children with little or no control of their movement.

The children's father, Gary Clarence, was in his family's native South Africa with his eight-year-old daughter when he heard about the deaths.

His mother and sister are understood to have flown to the UK to support him.

At a news conference on Wednesday afternoon, Chief Superintendent Glenn Tunstall, of the Metropolitan Police, said officers were not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident.

He said specialist detectives were providing support to the family.
