A man has spoken of the moment he saw a woman being taken away in a blanket following the shocking attempted murder of three children in Huddersfield. The woman remains under arrest as she receives treatment in hospital.

Police were called to a home on Monday, February 6 after a four-year-old girl, two-year-old boy and three-month-old baby were found with serious stab injuries. The boy is in a serious condition but stable.

One of the neighbour's, Vincent Jones, like other residents, has spoken of his shock after the children were stabbed in the same street where he lives. He said: "When I heard there was some children involved, it was shocking, you know, very disturbing, we were waiting for the news to come on the television to see what really happened.

"I saw them take the woman away this morning, wrapped in a blanket, and I don't know anything more. You can't believe it happened, nobody can, it's terrible, not round here, not around your own house."

Vincent said it could happen anywhere, and when asked if anything should be done to keep people safe, he added: "Well, do we know when a stabbing is going to be? You could be walking on the street and somebody stabs you.

"You don't know when it is going to happen."

Enquiries are continuing and a police scene remains in place as crime scene investigators work at the home. DCI Sam Freeman of HMET, who is leading the enquiry, said: “We continue to carry out extensive enquiries into this incident which resulted in three children suffering serious injuries this morning.

“A woman continues to be treated for injuries and remains under arrest in hospital. Based on our investigations so far, we are not seeking anyone else in connection with what has taken place.”

DCI Freeman added: “Officers continue to support the family involved at what is clearly a dreadful time for them.

“I would like to remind residents that this case involves very young children and ask that their privacy is respected and members of the public avoid unhelpful speculation which can only increase distress for the family involved.”
