Newcastle man dies and five more injured in crash between car and double decker bus

Police have issued an appeal after a man from Newcastle was killed in a crash with a double decker bus near York.

The fatal collision between a white Tesla Model 3 and a blue and white double decker bus on the B1224 Wetherby Road, close to the junction with the A1237, occurred at around 9.20am this morning (Saturday, June 29). The 31-year-old passenger from Newcastle was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Tesla, a 32-year-old man from Teesside, was taken to hospital with serious injuries. Three other passengers in the Tesla and the driver of the bus were treated at hospital for minor injuries.

The family of the man who died have been informed and are receiving support.

The B1224 road closure remained in place until 5.25pm on Saturday. North Yorkshire Police have appealed for witnesses to the collision or anyone with relevant dashcam footage to come forward "without delay" if they have not done so already.

Police say they also want to hear from anyone who recalls seeing either the white Tesla car or the blue and white double decker bus in the lead up to the incident. North Yorkshire Police are encouraging anyone who can help to email Mark.Patterson@northyorkshire.police.uk and MCIT@northyorkshire.police.uk quoting reference number 12240115125.
