Newcastle United's 2024/25 home kit revealed as 15-year Adidas absence comes to an end

The agonising wait is officially over after Newcastle United unveiled their new home shirt for the 2024/25 campaign. Adidas’ return has been warmly received by the Magpies’ faithful, who have spent months speculating as to what the German manufacturer may have in store after a 15-year absence.

Supporters were put out of their misery at 8am Friday morning as the new offering was released in both Newcastle’s new temporary store and online. Fans queued in their hundreds outside St James’ Park to ensure they were one of the first to pick up the new home shirt and were joined by the club's Chief Executive Officer Darren Eales and Chief Commercial Officer Peter Silverstone.

With one black stripe sandwiched between two large white ones, the Adidas shirt is slightly different to Castore’s final design, with the latter opting for thinner black and white stripes on the 2023/24 shirt. The iconic three stripes of Adidas run down the shoulder and arms of the kit.

In a club statement, Newcastle said: "Newcastle United and adidas have marked the club’s highly anticipated return to the three

stripes, with the unveiling of the home kit for the upcoming 2024/25 season. The new design draws inspiration from the classic 2002/03 adidas home kit.

"The home jersey honours this iconic era with three bold, black stripes and a full-colour crest, offering a modern twist on a timeless classic, complemented by the adidas three-stripes detailing on the shoulders up to the collar. In further celebration of the club's history, the classic club crest reappears as a back neck sign-off, reaffirming the city's enduring unity.

The iconic black and white hues, synonymous with Newcastle United, have been preserved and crafted to evoke both memories of the past, and excitement for its future. Binding the kit together are solid black shorts and socks with the white NUFC sign off, creating a traditional aesthetic staying anchored in the club's roots."

Adidas have done all the right things in the build up to the grand unveiling, with their marketing team dropping plenty of Easter eggs in videos recently. Excitement reached fever pitch on Thursday evening as fans were treated to a special video marking the eve of the kit launch.

Narrated by Alan Shearer, the short clip showed current Newcastle stars in various new designs, including the home kit, new training gear, and retro kits. Eddie Howe and Jason Tindall donned the new activewear in the Strawberry Pub and there was a nod to the past with footage of icons like the late Gary Speed used.

In the advert, Shearer says: “It isn't just cloth and colour, or a wear once a week shirt, it's a second skin. A citizenship, a way of life, it's a uniform, a family, a history lesson. It's a night in, a night out, it's everyday, wherever you go.”

Authentic adult shirts will cost fans £110, replica adult shirts are priced at £80 and a kids replica shirt is £55. Newcastle have also released white and red long-sleeve training tops will undoubtedly prove popular.
