Charlotte Church has called her civil action battle against Rupert Murdoch’s News International as a battle of “David and Goliath” and said that the mogul has “learned nothing” from the phone hacking scandal that led to the closure of The News of The World.

The Welsh singer and TV presenter won damages of £600,000 after settling her case, which includes legal costs and and a public apology. In a statement she made following the court hearing she said: "In my opinion, they are not truly sorry, only sorry they got caught.”

"It seems they have learned nothing, and I would have learned nothing more from an actual trial since it was clear that no-one from News International was prepared to take the stand to explain their actions.”

Charlotte Makes Her Statement Outside Of Court

The ‘Call My Name’ singer revealed that she was “sickened” by the actions of the corporation and the invasion into her privacy.

"What I have discovered as the litigation has gone on has sickened and disgusted me.”

"Nothing was deemed off-limits by those who pursued me and my family, just to make money for a multinational news corporation.” She said.

The 26 year-old told The Guardian that she only settled out of court to protect her family’s privacy after the corporation threatened to drag up “ancient history” according to the singer.

She told the paper: "They were just going to drag my parents through the mud again and I couldn't let that happen. I've seen what it's done to my family the first time round and they were going to do it all over again which just says to me they haven't learned anything."
