The Dark Knight Rises To Have A Tearjerker Ending?

Screenwriter David S. Goyer, who has worked with Christopher Nolan on all three of the recent Batman films, has said that writing the ending to The Dark Knight Rises was an emotional experience.

Speaking to Empire Magazine recently, he said that the final moments of the saga are "completely unchanged" from the vision that they had before working on the first film in the trilogy, Batman Begins.

But what he said next has got the internet rumour mill running wild: "I have to tell you, having finally seen everything strung together a little while ago and seeing that scene, I got a complete lump in my throat."

Will we feel the same way? Will one of our favourite characters not make it to the credits?

Director Christopher Nolan is keen to put an end to these rumours, however.

Speaking to MTV News, he encouraged fans not to get too carried away: "I think, really, people are reading too much into David's quote, actually."

"If you read the context of it, he's very diplomatically talking about just fulfilling the promise of what we had initially talked about in terms of having a complete story, and ending the story."

 He explained further: "Really, what David was saying was that we figured out the ending [of The Dark Knight Rises] before we figured out anything else."

"I think he was very happy with how we realized the conclusion of the story."

Well, we suppose that's fair enough. But we love a good weepie over here, so we're still hoping for tears by the time the credits roll! So, Chris, how about you tell us what happens?

"I don't really want to talk about the ending of the film. We wouldn't want to give that away."

Fine, whatever you say! We'll just have to wait until it comes out on July 20th.
