I’m a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here! star Myles Stephenson has revealed why he came close to not doing the ITV reality show.

The Rak-Su singer and former X Factor contestant was voted out of camp in the series’ most recent episode. During his debrief interview with hosts Ant McPartlin and Dec Donnelly, he admitted that he was “debating” taking part right up until it was time to head out to Australia because his grandmother is ill.

“My nan’s not very well at the moment so it was one of those things…” the 28-year-old told the presenting duo.

“Cooking was my comfort zone. If the days were long, if people were feeling a bit under the weather, I know that cooking would bring them up. My nan taught me how to cook. My mum is a bad cook,” he laughed, when asked why he adopted the role of chef during his time in the jungle.

Going on to talk about how happy he is that he did decide to sign on for the show, Stephenson continued: “I’ve met the most amazing people I’ve ever met in my life. including you and the production team. This has been a whirlwind for me.

“Two years ago, I would have never thought I’d be [here]. It’s nice and I’ve glad I got this far.”

As he left camp life behind when he walked across the iconic I’m a Celebrity bridge last night, Stephenson followed in the footsteps of recently booted-off contestants Ian Wright, James Haskell, Cliff Parisi, Andrew Maxwell and Adele Roberts.

Now only six celebrities remain in the competition: Good Morning Britain journalist Kate Garraway, actor Jacqueline Jossa, radio DJ Roman Kemp, reality star Caitlyn Jenner, Coronation Street’s Andrew Whyment and former Girls Aloud singer Nadine Coyle.

I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! continues tonight at 9pm on ITV.
