Katie Holmes Won't Be 'Another Nicole Kidman' As She Vows To Do 'Whatever It Takes' To Get Custody Of Suri

Katie Holmes has reportedly vowed not to become another 'Nicole Kidman' when it comes to her daughter Suri and will do “whatever it takes” to raise the six year-old herself.

The 33 year-old caused shock on Friday (June 28) when it was announced she had filed for divorce from the 'Mission Impossible' star after five years of marriage. Eyebrows were also raised over her decision to petition for sole custody of her daughter rather than joint.

Nicole Kidman was married to Tom for 10 years and adopted two children Isabella and Connor during that time, but since they split in 2001 the 'Moulin Rouge' star has barely seen her adopted children, something Katie fears will happen if Tom gets custody of Suri.

"[Bella and Connor] lived with their father and Katie during the marriage full-time,” a source told RadarOnline.

“They aren't that close to Nicole, and Katie is determined that she won't be cut out of Suri's life.”

A reason behind the split appears to be Katie's reluctance to raise Suri as a Scientologist, the source went on: "Bella and Connor are devoted to their father and Scientology, and Katie saw this firsthand, and this is one of the reasons she filed for sole custody.”

Suri has been Katie's sole confident for some time as Tom travelled the world making movies and she is ready to “fight” her husband to keep her daughter close.

“Katie will not be relegated to a secondary role in her daughter's life, period, and she is prepared to fight Tom in court. Katie isn't going to back down, and she will do whatever it takes to ensure that she raises Suri herself," the insider explained.

It is believed that the actor had tried to convince the Dawson's Creek star to spend his 50th birthday in Iceland in a last attempt to win her back, but the actress refused.

Instead Tom spent his birthday flying back to California where he is expected to file his own divorce request.

Katie was spotted out in New York on her father's birthday getting ice cream with her mother.
