'Nipping at their heels' - Bristol Bears hand promising scrum-half a new contract

Bristol Bears have confirmed that 24-year-old scrum half Sam Wolstenholme has agreed a new contract extension with the club to ensure the club have a strong stock of specialist nines heading into the 2024/25 season.

Wolstenholme joined the club from Wasps, via Leicester Tigers, last summer. With England international Harry Randall first choice at the Bears and the Ireland-capped Kieran Marmion number two, Wolstenholme and has made just four appearances this season, but has impressed when he played, starting against Bordeaux-Begles in the Investec Champions Cup.

Bristol director of rugby, Pat Lam, said: “We’re very pleased that Wolsty is continuing his journey with the Bears. He has been an excellent addition to our scrum half ranks on and off the field and we’re delighted with the progress and development he has made in is his first season with us.

“His attitude and determination to improve and compete as a player has been impressive and I believe the quality performances of our two experienced scrum halves Harry Randall and Kieran Marmion is largely down to Wolsty nipping at their heels.”

Wolstenholme said: “I’ve enjoyed my first season with Bristol Bears and feel like I have developed my game significantly during this time.

“I’m excited to have signed a contract extension and fully focused on kicking on and the taking my game to the next level.”
