Noel Gallagher takes dig at ex-wife Sarah MacDonald over divorce
The Oasis rocker has spoken for the first time about his split from his second wife since they announced they were divorcing.
Noel Gallagher has made a sly dig at his ex-wife Sara MacDonald over their divorce settlement. The former Oasis star broke his silence about their split for the first time a year after they announced they were filing for divorce in January 2023. Publicist MacDonald – the rocker's second wife – has remained in the north London mansion they shared with sons Donovan, 16, and Sonny, 14.
Gallagher told Matt Morgan's Patreon podcast: "I can get on the bike and go up to King's Cross, and go down to the canal at Longfield Road. And get on the canal outside my wonderful ex-wife's house and give her a little wave, and go, 'You didn't take this from me!' But the pace of London is f***ing great at the minute, I'm loving it."
The High Flying Birds frontman revealed he has moved back into his new London home after spending "most of last Year" living in prestigious London hotel Claridge's. He said: "I had some proper f***ing good times there – it was a proper good time. I lived there for most of last year, I was there three or four nights a week."
And Gallagher revealed he in "on the wagon" for January after realising he had drunk alcohol every day for the last four years. He said: "I'm off the booze 'til March. I looked s**t at the ned of last year. Before the lockdown I never used to drink at home and then I got into the habit and I worked out I have been drinking every day for four years. Half a bottle of red wine a night and then going on tour. I've got a gig March 21st at the Royal Albert Hall. That's the aim is to have a big blow out the night after that. Go mad, swinging my undies round my head!"
Gallagher began dating MacDonald around 2001. They had son Donovan in 2007 and Sonny in 2010. They married in the New Forest National Park in 2011.
Scottish publicist MacDonald was named in his divorce from first wife Meg Matthews in 2001, although the Roll With It musician always denied being unfaithful. Gallagher was married to PR Meg Matthews between 1997 and 2001 after they tied the knot in Las Vegas. They share 23-year-old daughter Anaïs Gallagher.
Matthews said the difficult split left her with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). She said: “I came through the marriage. Everything was public. At the end of the day I did not have the cog or the PR world that that person (Noel) had. I was just the ex-wife. I had nobody. I didn’t know what to do. I didn’t have a press agent, wasn’t famous, I just had a daughter."
Gallagher said in June 2023 that he was not ready to start dating again. He said "Dating, I’m not sure about that. The women that I meet are absolutely f****** insane."
In his brother Paul Gallagher's book Noel's first girlfriend is named as a girl called Janet when he was just eight-years-old. He got engaged with he was 18 to teenage girlfriend Diane. The songwriter's first serious girlfriend was Louise Jones.
Noel moved out of the family home he shared with brother Liam Gallagher in 1989 to share a flat with Jones in Manchester. He wrote the song Slide Away for her and has said she inspired the Oasis track Married With Children.
