A North Tyneside woman received more than 250 cards from across the world to celebrate her 100th birthday.

Dorothy Browne, who is a resident at Redesdale Court Care Home in North Shields, marked the incredible milestone with a party on June 10. She enjoyed a special performance from schoolchildren from Preston Grange Primary School and an afternoon tea.

Ahead of her birthday, care home staff appealed for people to send birthday cards for the occasion. Hundreds of cards were sent from across the globe, including Australia, and of course Dorothy received a card for the King.

Rebecca Ridley, Home Manager at Redesdale Court Care Home said: “Dorothy had a fantastic 100th birthday and enjoyed celebrating her special birthday with loved ones.

"Dorothy’s birthday celebrations included a visit from children from the local school who had made their own cards and birthday banner for Dorothy, they also put on a singing performance. Dorothy also enjoyed afternoon tea followed by one of Redesdale Court’s care team staff singing which Dorothy loved.

“We would like to thank the public for sending birthday cards to Dorothy. Dorothy received over 250 birthday cards from all across the world including Australia and a card from the King.

"The dining room on the suite Dorothy resides on was decorated especially for the occasion with her cards and balloons and Dorothy had an amazing cake baked by the home’s kitchen team.”
