Josh Magennis is on the lookout for a new club after Wigan Athletic confirmed the striker is one of five first team players to be released ahead of the 2024/25 campaign. The 33-year-old, who was club captain, joins Tome Pearce, Ben Amos, Stephen Humphrys, and Charlie Wyke in leaving the Latics.

Magennis joined Wigan from Hull City in January 2022 scoring 11 goals in 89 league appearances for the club. He recently bagged his 100th career goal as Wigan ended their League One season on a high with a 2-0 win over Bristol Rovers.

As Magennis prepares to depart the DW Stadium there could be better news for another fellow Northern Irish international. Jordan Jones is one of four players manager Shaun Maloney will continue discussions with over the possibility of extending his stay with the club.

What the future holds for Magennis though remains to be seen. He now joins international teammates Shayne Lavery and Shane Ferguson on the lookout for new clubs over the summer.
