'Do not eat' warning issued to customers over popular Waitrose item

Customers have been issued with an urgent 'do not eat' warning over a popular Waitrose item. The supermarket's own brand Essential Waitrose & Partners Salted Dairy Butter is being recalled.

The Food Standards Agency (FSA) alert says the product 'may contain pieces of blue cloth' therefore making it unsafe for customers to consume.

The 500g packs with a best before date of June 19 2024 are currently being recalled by the supermarket chain. Anyone who has bought the item is instead told to return it to the branch they purchased it from for a full refund.

The FSA notice reads: "Waitrose is recalling Salted Dairy Butter because it may contain pieces of blue cloth. The possible presence of blue cloth makes the product unsafe to eat.

"Waitrose is recalling the above product. Point of sale notices will be displayed in all retail stores that are selling this product."

Waitrose added: "We apologise that it has been necessary to recall this product and for the inconvenience caused."
