Genk are trying to strike a £3.5million-plus deal to sign Oh Hyeon-gyu.

Record Sport broke the story this week that the Belgian side want to land the South Korean international. Celtic are in negotiations with Genk and look to make a profit on the £2.5m they paid Suwon Samsung Bluewings for the forward in January last year, along with future add-ons.

The striker has fallen down the pecking order at Celtic Park and Genk want to give him the platform to relaunch his career. Oh is also keen on the move to work with Genk coach Thorstein Fink. Fink was a big influence on the early career of Tottenham star Son Heung-min in his early years at Hamburg. The 22-year-old has struggled to convince Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers that he should be among his top strikers. Kyogo Furuhashi remained the first pick and Celtic went out and took Adam Idah on-loan from Norwich City for the second half of the season.

Oh hardly featured in the second half of Celtic’s Double-winning campaign. His lack of club form also had an impact on his international prospects and he was dropped for the March fixtures.
