Incoming Manchester United chief executive Omar Berrada has warned the club could find themselves on a "slippery slope" if they overpay in the transfer window.

Former Manchester City chief operations officer Berrada was headhunted by Ineos to replace Richard Arnold in January and the Moroccan will officially start in his new role on July 13.

Berrada attended the EU Business School's commencement ceremony in Barcelona last week and an attendant posted about their interaction with the new United chief.

Before and during his time at City, Berrada posted tweets deriding United and questioning the running of the club. Berrada shared a story that claimed United had overpaid for Angel Di Maria in 2014 and a piece entitled 'Manchester United: How did they get into this mess?'

In Barcelona last week, Berrada highlighted the importance of establishing a new structure at United as well as not overspending in the transfer market.

United hired Jason Wilcox as technical director on Berrada's recommendation, having worked as academy director at City, and United want Dan Ashworth as their sporting director.

Marc Guerrero wrote on LinkedIn: "It was a pleasure to meet Manchester United's appointed new CEO, Omar Berrada (one of the most experienced football executives at the top of European football) at the sidelines of EU Business School commencement ceremony.

"Berrada arrives to the United after being chief football operations officer (COO) at Manchester City Football Club.

"For him, implementing the correct structure at the club is key to the team's success. He also warns overpaying clubs, players and agents in the transfer market can lead to teams finding themselves on a 'slippery slope'."
