Oprah Winfrey Hospitalized With “Some Kind Of Stomach Thing,” Misses ‘CBS Mornings’ Appearance

Oprah Winfrey was hospitalized with a stomach virus, her friend Gayle King revealed on CBS Mornings.

The media mogul was scheduled to appear on the morning show on June 11 to reveal her latest book club pick but had to cancel.

“She had some kind of stomach thing — stomach flu — stuff was coming out of both ends,” King said. “I won’t get too graphic. Needless to say, she ended up in the hospital, dehydration, had to get an IV.”

King said “It was a very serious thing,” and Winfrey tried to “rally” but was recommended to get some rest.

“She will be okay. I hope she’s not mad at me for sharing that detail,” King continued. “But I wanted to make it clear, though, that it mattered to her and that it really bothered her that she couldn’t be here for you today.”

Although Winfrey could not present her latest book recommendation in person, her Instagram was updated with the selection. Winfrey chose David Wroblewski’s Familiaris for her summer read, a follow-up book to the 2008 book club pic The Story of Edgar Sawtelle.

“This riveting family saga takes us on an extraordinary journey that brilliantly interweaves history, philosophy, adventure, and mysticism to explore the meaning of love, friendship and living your life’s true purpose,” read Winfrey’s post. “You don’t have to read David’s first book before starting this one but I’m sure you’ll pick it up after finishing.”
