There will be overnight closures on part of the A180 in Grimsby this week as roadworks continue.

There will be two full night closures on Gilbey Road flyover between 8pm and 6am the following morning with the first taking place tonight (Wednesday, April 24) and the second on Thursday evening into Friday morning.

On the first night, the traffic management arrangements will be changed so that traffic will use the eastbound side of the bridge from Thursday morning. On the second night, the temporary road studs will be moved to help drivers with the new alignment, particularly during night driving. Local diversions will be in place during the closures.

North East Lincolnshire Council says the first part of the A180 bridges project has been completed, with the eastbound carriageway of Gilbey Road Bridge - from Pyewipe roundabout to Westgate roundabout - now re-waterproofed and resurfaced. Work is also underway below deck on both Gilbey and Cleethorpe Road bridges.

Work is also set to start on the westbound side of Gilbey Road Bridge to repair and waterproof the deck to preserve it for years to come.

Once the main work on Gilbey Road Bridge has been completed, above deck works work will move to Cleethorpe Road bridge, near Riby Square. However, further work will need to be done later in the year on Gilbey Road Bridge to improve the central safety barrier. The council says details of this work will be released when dates are confirmed.

The project to restore the three A180 bridges in Grimsby began in February and is set to continue through the year.
