Train passengers are being urged to check before they travel after a fallen tree caused damage to the Cross City Line. Engineers worked through the night to repair overnight power cables after the branch fell near Chester Road Station on Monday afternoon.

Services between Lichfield and Birmingham were closed but reopened on Tuesday morning. Passengers are being warned of residual delays as the services resume.

Train services continue to run on the south of the Cross City Line, between Birmingham, Redditch and Bromsgrove.

Jonny Wiseman, customer experience director at West Midlands Railway, said: "The fallen tree near Chester Road has caused significant damage to the overhead power lines which will take Network Rail some time to repair.

"I urge passengers travelling on Tuesday to check their journeys before setting out as rail replacement transport will be in operation until the repairs have been completed and the railway reopens.
