Yahoo News Paw thing! Pooch dubbed Britain's loneliest dog has been waiting 900 days for his 'forever home'
An adorable pooch has been dubbed the UK's loneliest and perhaps unluckiest dog after spending nearly two-and-a-half years in kennels.
Eight-year-old lurcher Sam has been adopted three times from the Destitute Animal Shelter in Bolton, Greater Manchester, but has yet to find a permanent home.
Staff and volunteers are desperate to find him a home after first being rescued in 2014.
Doe-eyed Sam is loved by shelter staff - who have so far been unable to find him a permanent home.
His last owner died in February 2017 - just six months after adopting him.
The first two times, he was returned because of family circumstances.
Shelter manager Karen Rickards said "It’s never anything Sam’s done, he’s just constantly found himself in the wrong home at the wrong time.
He’s currently the shelter's longest-serving resident.
‘And yet he’s playful, gentle and absolutely loves people.
‘We need to find someone who can take care of him. ‘He deserves nothing less than an amazing home."

‘Sam has been so unlucky, and it's through no fault of his own.
‘His last owner died in 2017 - which was his third brief attempt at being re-homed - he was there for six months and he's been here ever since.’
A Facebook post describes Sam as a 'great dog, he is fun and makes you laugh'.
It read: ‘He is playful and loving and can be quite lazy as well.
'He will need to be the only pet in the home and kept on a lead when on a walk as he will chase small furies (cats, rabbits, small dogs etc.)
'He is obsessed with teddy’s and likes rip them up to see what’s in side. He is fine with children.'
The appeal comes after a lurcher named Hector was previously dubbed the most lonely after spending 500 days at RSPCA's Little Valley Animal Shelter.
Hector did find a home, and is said to be doing well with his new owners.
The Destitute Animal Shelter has been chosen by Bolton firm, Love Energy Savings, as their chosen charity partner.
Phil Foster, CEO, said: “While none of our animal-loving staff have adopted directly from the shelter, many know someone who has, so we’re thrilled to be able to help out.
“The shelter needs £180,000 per year to survive and is in constant need of repair. We really hope we can raise enough money for them to make a difference."
