Pep Guardiola vowed that Manchester City will win back the FA Cup next season after losing it to rivals Manchester United - but he swerved an awkward question on his long-term future at the Etihad.

Celebrating their fourth-successive Premier League title with a parade through Manchester, Guardiola had insisted that City should celebrate that historic achievement despite losing the FA Cup final to United a day earlier. The cup final defeat put a slight dampener on proceedings, as did the Manchester rain, but City soon resumed their celebrations as the fireworks were set off and the open top buses departed.

"We are happy, it's a big achievement, that's why we are here again," he said in front of thousands of fans in Cathedral Gardens. "Even myself I couldn’t expect to stay here eight years but everything goes well. Step by step we are here and it looks like a routine [these parades] but it's not a routine."

Guardiola has one more season on his contract and will honour that final year, but he has left the prospect of an extension up for debate - questioning whether he would be able to find the motivation to extend. However, as much as he says he is 'closer to leaving than staying [another seven years]', he has also left the door firmly open to a new deal if he believes he is wanted by the club.

Asked if he would simply stay forever, Guardiola looked taken aback by the question and laughed nervously before sending a message to United over next season following their cup success.

"We will be back next season. The FA Cup, we will take it," he said, to big cheers from the crowd.

Midfielder and Player of the Season Phil Foden had a similar message, telling supporters: "It's been a special season. Nobody has done it before. It's an unbelievable season. It's the hunger inside me. We've got great players, we want to win more next season."
