A road was closed for hours this morning after a crash and oil spill.

The car, a Ford Focus, crashed on the A27 Upper Brighton Road, Worthing, in the early hours of April 27.

Its engine was in the road, causing a significant oil spill.

Police closed the road between the A24 Broadwater Street West, the Grove Lodge Roundabout, and Sompting Road, Lyons Farm retail park.

National Highways confirmed the road was closed at around 5.30am. It reopened at around 10am.

A spokeswoman for Sussex Police said: "This was a single vehicle collision and a subsequent significant oil spillage in the early hours of today which has caused a section of the A27 at Worthing to be closed from Forest Road to the Grove Lodge roundabout."
