Yahoo News Pitch Perfect 3 signs another Hollywood heavyweight
Pitch Perfect 3 has signed another Hollywood heavyweight to its cast, in the form of Interstellar actor and Academy Award nominee, John Lithgow.
Lithgow, who recently won a Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Drama Series for his role as Winston Churchill in Netflix's The Crown , has signed on to star in Trish Sie's threequel, based around the adventures of acapella group the Barden Bellas.
He joins other academy award nominees Anna Kendrick and Hailee Steinfeld in the movie, which will be released at the end of this year.
Lithgow is known for his roles in movies such as Interstellar, Shrek and This is 40 – and also has recurring TV roles in How I Met Your Mother and Dexter.
It's not yet known what role he will play, but we're excited to find out.
Pitch Perfect 3 began filming in January, after the departure of the movie's original director Elizabeth Banks, which was documented by Anna Kendrick in an Instagram post.
And, while we're glad to see class finally in session, the third instalment definitely hasn't been without its setbacks.
First, there was the devastating news that Skylar Astin and the rest of the Trebles wouldn't be returning for the third movie.
And then its release date was pushed back a whole five months. Argh!
Thankfully, it all seems to be back on track now and the girls seem to have a great time filming the movie, if the film's official Instagram page is anything to go by, with Lithgow a welcome addition to the cast.
We haven't seen him in any Bella bootcamp training videos yet, but we'll be keeping a close eye out in future...
Pitch Perfect 3 will be in cinemas December 22, 2017.
