A Place in the Sun's Laura Hamilton has made a touching revelation about her bond with the late Jonnie Irwin after his death. Jonnie sadly passed away at the age of 50 in February.

The much-loved presenter had been battling terminal cancer for over three years. More than two months following his passing, Laura shared that she felt she was "the closest" to him out of everyone on the Channel 4 show after working together for many years.

In an emotional interview on GB News, Laura spoke about their tight-knit relationship as she discussed reminiscing about him with co-host Jasmine Harman. She said: "Last time I was in Spain, a couple of weeks ago I saw Jas and her family again we are very close. Our kids hang out. So yeah, we are very close.

"Jas and I in particular obviously were sort of closest to Jonnie. So having done the show as long as we have... So yeah, we reminisce a lot."

She added: "We are a family at A Place in the Sun, both for everyone in front and behind the camera. And lots of us have worked together for years.

"So although we might not see each other all the time, we regularly do chat and we do message each other. We do keep up to date. I mean I'm flying out to Spain next week - I'm actually filming for the next couple of weeks - and I'm going to meet with Jasmine [Harman]."

Jonnie's widow Jess Holmes shared with her followers that his passing still 'didn't feel real' recently. She said: "It still doesn't feel real. The sadness is huge.

"I can't even let myself think what another week without Jonnie will be like let alone another year another 10 years. I have been truly touched by all the support from friends and strangers."

She continued to share how her family and Jonnie's sisters have been her rock during this difficult time: "But nothing compares to how I have been picked up by my family and Jonnie's sisters, your support and love means everything to me. I am loving watching the boys enjoy some days in the sun and having a change of scene is just what we needed."
