Plane Making Emergency Landing at LAX Dumps Jet Fuel on School Playground

A Delta Airlines jet returning to Los Angeles International Airport for an emergency landing released fuel over an elementary school playground in Cudahy, California, on Tuesday, January 14, according to local media.

According to the Los Angeles Times, when the fuel was dumped from the plane to reduce landing weight, it hit several students on the playground of Cudahy’s Park Avenue Elementary School.

The Los Angeles County Fire Department responded to the school at around 12 pm local time and said 17 students and 9 adults were treated for skin irritation.

The jet landed safely at the airport, the LA Times said.
