A popular festival which was set to take place in Glasgow in weeks has been cancelled in what organisers say was an "extremely difficult decision".

The Riverside Festival on the city's Clydeside has been axed due to "lower-than-expected sales". The event was meant to take place across May 25 and May 26.

It would have seen performances from headliners: Green Velvet, LF SYSTEM, Slam, LA LA, Charlie Sparks, FRANCK, Reinier Zonneveld, TSHA, Eliza Rose, Grace Dahl B2B Stephanie Sykes, Ben Klock and Dax J.

Customers who already purchased tickets have been told to expect a full refund within five working days.

A spokesperson for the Riverside Festival wrote on social media: “It is with deep regret and heavy hearts that we’ve taken the extremely difficult decision to cancel this year’s Riverside Festival.

“With lower-than-expected sales and increased infrastructure, staff, transport, and artist costs, all in an over-saturated event landscape, we could not deliver the festival to our usual high standards.

“We understand how upsetting this is for those of you who have bought tickets, and we sincerely thank you all for your continued support.

“Please save the dates and hold tight for sign up and line up announcements!”

The organisers also confirmed that they will be putting together two “massive” shows at the museum on August 31 and September 1.
