This summer many of us face the frustrating reality of long queues on the roads, whether we're visiting loved ones or heading off on a well-deserved break. A lengthy drive, possibly soundtracked by the occasional "are we nearly there?" from your children in the back.

While the journey itself might be uncomfortable due to limited space, it can also lead to aches in the back and neck, according to Chris Trembath, a posture expert at Deskup.

Chris said: “Unlike at a desk where you can easily stretch your legs, being in the car for long journeys means you're stuck in one position by the steering wheel and seat. Many of us already have quite sedentary lifestyles, and sitting for extended periods in the car can certainly contribute to back and neck trouble.”

The good news is, according to Chris, there's a way to sit in the car that'll keep your back happy and minimise aches and pains.

Chris said: “Just like you wouldn't go on a long hike in flip-flops, it's best to be prepared to sit properly for a long drive. The golden rule is to remember ‘BBC’ – which basically means bum to the back of the chair - which is ideal for good back support - and shoulders relaxed, leaning against the seat to avoid hunching."

Chris added that breaking the journey up every now and then to stretch your legs or have a wander around can "do wonders".
