An indulgent but comforting roast dinner is the ultimate British staple meal to end your weekend. And within Coventry, there are many places to enjoy a slap-up roast, from fine-dining restaurants to traditional gastro-pubs.

From set Sunday menus to self-serve carvery stations with all the trimmings, we truly are spoilt for choice. One establishment that offers diners a place to dine and unwind while enjoying a wholesome roast dinner is The Horse and Jockey in Corley.

The venue is described as a 'charming country pub' located just a 10-minute drive from Coventry city centre - and it has been recently refurbished. It serves everything from classic British pub food to a set Sunday menu with all the trimmings for you to enjoy.

The pub is dog-friendly and includes a beer garden that offers 'fabulous views' overlooking the countryside, complete with a separate restaurant for dining. Many praisedthe pub for offering a 'simply excellent' Sunday lunch that is 'good value'.

The Sunday Lunch menu includes starters, mains, and desserts with one course for £16.95 per person, two courses for £21.95pp, and three for £25.95pp with the children's menu at £6.95pp. Starters include soup of the day, goat cheese and beetroot tart, chicken liver parfait, and prawn and crayfish topped with a Bloody Mary, Marie rose sauce.

The Sunday roast includes either:

  • Supreme baked breast of chicken, sage, and onion stuffing, and gravy

  • Roast loin of pork, smashed apple, crackling, sausage meat stuffing and gravy

  • Topside of beed (Parkers), horseradish creme fraiche and gravy

  • Cauliflower steak and creamed leeks

The pub says all the dishes are served with roasted roots, spring greens, roast potatoes, mashed potatoes, and Yorkshire puddings. Desserts include warm homemade chocolate brownie and vanilla ice cream, apple and berry crumble with vanilla custard, lemon posset topped with raspberry jelly and a ginger crumb, and ice cream scoops.

The pub has a 4.5-star rating on Tripadvisor, with food, service, value, and atmosphere also with a 4.5-star rating. The establishment also has a 4.4-star rating on Google reviews.

Maureen Bateman said: "We had been recommended to this place and what a surprise. A very comfortable eating place, super Sunday lunch, and the best we've had in ages and the staff were lovely."
