Primark's £3.50 body spray smells the 'exact same' as £24 Sol de Janeiro version

File photo dated 20/1/2022 of a branch of Primark. Primark parent firm Associated British Foods (ABF) is expected to announce another rise in sales when it updates investors next week. However, disruption from delayed shipments due to travel through the Red Sea, weaker UK high street footfall and wage hikes from April could all pose a challenge to the firm's recent progress. Shares in the company, which also owns large grocery and agriculture operations, have lifted by about a quarter over the past 12 months. Issue date: Sunday January 21, 2024. PA Photo. A Primark shopper has lauded a £3.50 body spray as the ‘best ever’ alternative to the luxury Sol de Janeiro brand. Customer Hayley Mills showed off her find, Primark’s Maldives Sunset Body Mist, which cost her just a few pounds.

Sharing the news on the Extreme Couponing and Bargains UK Facebook group, Hayley dubbed it the ‘best’. She simply wrote: “The best dupe ever! Primark £3.50.”

Her post received over 1,000 reactions and 1,400 comments, where other Primark fans praised the budget beauty collection. Jess Wall wrote: “I’ve got the light pink one and it smells exactly like it.” Krystina Bowman said: “The blue one smells amazing!!”

Gemma Doyle commented, “My daughter bought herself this one and the pink one n loves! She says they smell the exact same,” while Alice Elizabeth Sutton wrote, “Smells lovely but does smell slightly different to the sol de janerio. Smell doesn't last long at all either, but for £3.50 can't complain.”

However not everyone agreed, with Amber Thorton saying: “Absolutely nothing like it.” XMandi Liddellx agreed: “I got this the smell is very weak and u can badly smell it on you.”

Sol de Janeiro’s body spray can cost anywhere from £21 to £24 per 90ml bottle. It’s also possible to find the sprays in 240ml, which will set people back around £38.

Primark’s beauty spray alternatives include the Hawaii Paradise Body Mist in a pink bottle, with top notes of raspberry and fresh tropical flower layered on a base of caramel and musk, with mid notes of jasmine. It also has a new ‘green scent’, known as Capri Breeze Body Mist.

The scent includes notes of hazelnut, middle notes of coconut and chocolate, and a base of caramel, musk and vanilla. And as an alternative for the Sol de Janeiro Brazilian Crush Cheirosa 62 Mist, Primark sells the Maldives Sunset Body Mist, which has notes of coconut, almond and chocolate top notes on a base of caramel, vanilla and sandalwood.

It doesn’t appear that Primark’s Maldives Sunset, Hawaii Paradise and Capri Breeze body mists are available online, so you will have to check your local branch. You can find your local Primark store here.
