Primary school praised for 'outstanding' pupil development

A primary school is toasting to success following a 'Good' Ofsted evaluation, with particular commendation for its pupil development.

Inspectors, who visited in April, highlighted the 'Good' overall effectiveness of Burnham Market Primary School along with its quality of education, behaviour, attitudes and leadership.

A standout 'Outstanding' was given for pupil development.

The staff's commitment to ensuring that pupils have an enriched curriculum' was highly praised, with the report emphasising the pupils’ wider development as the school's strength.

Pupils are provided with opportunities to partake in a diverse range of activities including arts, music, sports, drama and movie making, often working alongside nationally renowned professionals, from West End actors to published authors.

The inspectors said: “Pupils behave well in and out of lessons.

"There is a calm and orderly environment around school.

Further praise was heaped on the staff's high expectations for academic success and broad, well-balanced curriculum.

They also applauded the schools commitment to pupils’ well-being.

The report also said: "Older pupils play well with younger ones and they take on many responsibilities, such as reading to others."

They also mentioned the effectiveness of the school's SEND provision.

It was acknowledged that the school efficiently identifies pupils with SEND from the early years, providing extra help for those with speech and language limitations.

Rachel Stroulger, headteacher, said: “Following our inspection in 2021 in which the school was found to require improvement, we have worked extremely hard to ensure Burnham Market Primary is a Good school.

“I am thrilled that inspectors found our school welcoming and friendly, where pupils are happy, and that they could see we are committed to our vision of ‘local memories and broadening horizons’.

John Smith, chairman of trustees, and Sam Dack, chairman of governors, also expressed their delight at the outcome and acknowledged the hard work by the school staff that led to this accomplishment.
