Reason revealed why police cordoned off main street as man hospitalised

Police have revealed why they cordoned off a major Oxfordshire street this weekend.

At around 3pm on Saturday, Thames Valley Police cordoned off part of Ock Street in Abingdon to allow paramedics to deal with an ongoing incident.

This was close to the town centre and allowed paramedics could park their ambulances close to flats.

A large number of paramedics could be seen gathering in the entrance to a block of flats close to Reeves fish and chip shop.

Passers-by watched as paramedics went in and out of the entrance to the flats.

One resident said: "It looks like they have been treating someone lying on the ground."

Thames Valley Police has since revealed in a statement that the closure was due to a medical incident in which a man was hospitalised.

A spokesperson for the force said on Sunday: “This relates to a man suffering a medical episode, who was later taken to hospital.”

The section of road close to the Spring Road double roundabout was cordoned off in the direction of the town centre, near the area around the flats.

Thames Valley Police has been contacted by The Oxford Mail for an update on the man’s condition following his admission to hospital.
